What Type Of Van is it?
Our van is a VW type 2 camper van known as ‘Bay Window,’ hence Bay View Campers. It was built in the mid 1970’s. It has VW’s trusty 1600cc air cooled engine which has been refurbished. The van has a manual gearshift and is right hand drive.
The van comes fully equipped with built in fridge, cooker and sink along with all the pots, pans, crockery and cutlery that you may need. It comes with a CD/MP3 player and a DVD player for your enjoyment. Bedding and towels can be provided at no extra cost. The van also comes with a full tank of petrol to get you on your way. On arrival we will show you round the van and demonstrate how to operate the fridge, cooker, etc.
What Are They Like To Drive?
The vans are great fun to drive and the experience will add to the enjoyment of your holiday. However do not expect them to drive like your modern car. They were designed when the pace of life was slower and there was less traffic on the road. They are not difficult to drive and we can offer a quick practice session to let you get the feel of it before you set off. You have a nice high up driving position giving you a great view of the road ahead and the passengers get a great view of the scenery. After a few miles you will soon feel at home.
How Fast Do The Camper Vans Go?
Driving a classic VW camper is all about kicking back and enjoying life at a slower pace. The vans drive comfortably at 50 mph and have a top speed of 60 mph which we would ask you not to exceed.
How Reliable Are They?
VWs are well known for their reliability and the vans have 1600cc air cooled engines which have been fully refurbished. In addition to this all our vans are regularly serviced and undergo a full safety and maintenance check before each hire.
We also provide a Van Information pack which has a guide on how to use the van allowing you to trouble shoot any problems.
If all else fails each van comes with full breakdown cover and has a small amount of spares to assist the patrol to fix the problem. In the unlikely event that the van cannot be repaired at the roadside the vehicle will be brought back to our premises for repair. If the vehicle cannot be repaired, a replacement vehicle is not available therefore you will be offered a partial refund for the time of your holiday that is remaining.
